In the past two decades, the number of women getting pregnant in their 20s has decreased. More and more women are now choosing to have babies later in their life, due to different reasons like career or late marriage. Society and patterns in childbirth have changed, but the biological realities of fertility remain the same. Getting pregnant in the 20s is easier as compared to late 30s and 40s. That’s because the fertility rate decreases with age. Most women enter menopause in their late 40s or early 50s and in the years before menopause due to decreased fertility rate, conceiving a child becomes quite difficult. Here is where egg freezing comes into play, a medical procedure that can help women get pregnant later in life, without much complication. We talked to Dr Parul Katiyar to learn more about egg freezing and its procedure.
